This article is from The Times of India. RITU BERI Fashion Designer I count myself lucky for being amongst the privileged few — ones who can be called s u c c e s s f u l and who can hold their own in a man’s world. However, this bit of success has not been without its share of back-stabbing and pregnant doging. But, guess what has been the irony here? That it’s men who indulge in it — of course, behind my back. This, I guess, stems from feelings of insecurity. And it surprises me no end that this feeling is rampant even amongst men who appear to be very successful in life. They are the ones who feel more at home with a regular woman who has a nine-to-five working schedule. And mind you, this doesn’t happen only in India, but the world over. I remember a small little incident in Paris — when I was having a cup of tea with my beautiful Argentine assistant. Just then a friend walked in and as we got talking about men, she made a simple statement —that while your assistant could easily get a man of her choice, things would be a little difficult for me! Why? Because I was successful! I too have begun to share this feeling — that men in my presence, soon start feeling that they’re not good enough. That’s why when I decide to settle down, I want a man who is confident, mature and who will be proud of me.... (As told to VINOD NAIR )
