Kasauli
visit :http://www.tourismofindia.com/hihill/hillkasauli.htm
Kasauli is a serene hill-station in Himachal Pradesh resplendent with breathtaking beauty and panoramic views. It is located 1,927 metres above sea level and just 70 kms from Chandigarh. Legend has it that Kasauli came into being when Lord Hanuman, on his way to getting the Sanjeevani herb, stepped here for jumping on to the Sanjeevani hill. At Kasauli there is a Hanuman Mandir atop the 300-mt high hillock, called Monkey Point, where Hanuman is supposed to have rested his feet.
This picturesque hill-station, oozing old-world charm is covered with tall Deodar, wild flowers, rhododendrons, wild roses, flame of the forest, and flowering Kichnar in summer and is a popular hub for bird-watchers. Winters, with snowfall, are beautiful too.
Kasauli was developed as a cantonment-sanatorium over 20 years, after the British had based themselves at Shimla. Its main attraction lies in its overall cleanliness, and its accessibility - it is a seven hour drive from Delhi. Besides being a tranquil and unruffled hill-station, it is also known for its Pasteur Institute, that produces the anti-rabies vaccine against dog-bite. Also worth a visit is the Christ's Church, a reminder of the British Raj, and the Kasauli Club. The best way to explore the town is by foot and the entire town can be toured in an hour or so.
The best way to reach Kasauli is to take a train. The nearest railhead is Kalka, from where one can take a cab to Kasauli -an hour's drive. By road it is 315 kms from Delhi and there are plenty of buses and taxis that will take you there. Alternately you can fly to Chandigarh, which is 70 kms away - a two-hour drive. Major domestic airlines fly between Delhi and Chandigarh.
The best place to stay and eat in, is the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation's (HPTDC) Hotel Ros Common, Hotel Alasia and Hotel Maurice. For those on a budget, there is the Public Works Department (PWD) rest house.
Being a cantonment town, entry to Kasauli is restricted. Foreign citizens must carry their passports. The best time to visit Kasauli is between April and June, and September and November.
